Woodkid is a very remarkable music artist, because he does not tend to sing about the usual topics that everyone does. He is a lot more intricate and creative with his music videos, whic gives his viewers an uplifting and sometimes motivational feeling. The amount of time and effort he pas put into his video have really paid off.

Introduction:

Yoann Lemoine is a neofolk musician who goes by the stage name of ‘Woodkid.’ Many of his songs have been played within films and video games, the most popular being ‘Assassins Creed,’ with his single ‘Run Boy Run.’ Since then, his music videos have been in other forms of entertainment, including ‘Divergent,’ and ‘Teen Wolf.’

Yoann’s music videos have a storyline and are in a particular order:

  • Iron – This song takes place during a mans funeral and connects the imagery of the metaphorical child that died, to the child’s time as a soldier, as well asll of these who died during that period. The loss of the ivory tower can be seen as a metaphor of Heaven amongst other things. In some ways, this song can be seen as the mans brief trip through purgatory.
  • Run Boy Run – In this song, the young boy is running away from his literal monsters at home to travel the world as a soldier. He eventually becomes a proest who longs for the love of a God that is not there, while he remembers the horror of his life and dreams of repdemption through suicide.
  • I Love You – He commits suicide and experiences the pain of death on the shore of the beach. The music video alludes to the paid caused to others by his suicide. He eventually visits heaven, but was cast out for the sin of suicide, and eventually arrived in Hell.
  • The Golden Age – This is the last phase of the cycle of a young boy growing up and eventually dying at the end of the album, ‘The Golden Age.’ In this music video, a boy leaves home as his parents break up and he remembers their happy moments. This leads the young boy to run away from his figurative monsters, which shape him into the man he will become.

Woodkid Iron Lyrics:

“Deep in the ocean, dead and cast away
Where innocence is burned in flames
A million mile from home, I’m walking ahead
I’m frozen to the bones, I am…

A soldier on my own, I don’t know the way
I’m riding up the heights of shame
I’m waiting for the call, the hand on the chest
I’m ready for the fight and fate

The sound of iron shots is stuck in my head,
The thunder of the drums dictates
The rhythm of the falls the number of deaths
The rising of the heights ahead

From the dawn of time to the end of days
I will have to run away
I want to feel the pain and the bitter taste
Of the blood on my lips again

The steady burst of snow is burning my hands,
I’m frozen to the bones, I am
A million mile from home, I’m walking away
I can’t remind your eyes, your face”
